Set Up the OTP First
One of the biggest mistakes players make is trying to verify their phone number before enabling OTP security. The Purple launcher expects the account security setup to happen in a specific order. If you skip OTP activation, the verification system often breaks or refuses to send SMS messages.
Before entering any phone number, do this first:
- Open the Purple launcher and click your profile icon.
- Go into Account Management.
- Open the Security Service section.
- Select One-Time Passcode (OTP).
- Install an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your phone.
- Scan the QR code generated by Purple.
- Enter the verification code from the authenticator app.
Once completed, the OTP status should display a green “In Use” icon. After that, return to the phone verification screen and try again.
A surprising number of players report that simply enabling OTP first fixes the entire issue.
Fix 1: Enter the Country Code Correctly
Another common problem comes from the way the Purple launcher handles international numbers. The formatting system is extremely sensitive, and many users accidentally input their number incorrectly without realizing it.
Here’s the correct way to enter your number:
- Fully close and restart the Purple launcher.
- Click the country code dropdown menu first.
- Select your region before typing anything.
- Enter only your local phone number afterward.
- Do not manually type your country code again in the main number field.
For example, if you select +1 for the United States, do not type +1 again inside the phone number box.
Many generic “verification failed” errors are caused purely by duplicate country codes or wrong formatting order.
Fix 2: Use the Hong Kong SMS Swap Method
If your real number never receives SMS messages, your region may simply be blocked by NCSoft’s verification system. This especially affects some US carriers and smaller international providers.
In that situation, the workaround most players use is the Hong Kong SMS swap method.
The process works like this:
Step 1: Get a Temporary Hong Kong Number
Use a temporary SMS provider that supports NCSoft verification. Many players use services like:
- Grizzly SMS
- Vsim
- Other temporary Hong Kong virtual number providers
Choose a Hong Kong (+852) number specifically intended for NCSoft or gaming verification if available.
Step 2: Verify Inside Aion 2
Launch Aion 2 through Purple and:
- Select the Hong Kong country code
- Enter the temporary number
- Wait for the SMS code
- Input the verification code inside the game client
Once accepted, your device becomes authorized.
Step 3: Replace the Temporary Number
After the login succeeds:
- Return to the title screen
- Click the security settings icon
- Select Change Phone Number
This usually redirects you to the NCSoft account management page where you can replace the temporary Hong Kong number with your actual mobile number.
Many players only need the HK number once for the initial device authorization.
Fix 3: Use ExitLag or Adjust Your Connection Route
Sometimes the issue is not your phone number at all. The SMS request itself may fail because NCSoft’s regional routing system rejects your connection path.
This is why some players can suddenly receive codes after changing their network route.
One of the most commonly used tools for this is ExitLag.
To configure it:
- Open ExitLag
- Search for AION 2 TW
- Apply the recommended routes
- Enable the Redirect Login option
- Restart Purple
- Attempt the verification again
The Redirect Login setting is particularly important because it changes how authentication traffic reaches NCSoft’s login servers.
Players who previously got endless loading circles or timeout errors often report immediate success after enabling this setting.
Additional Tips That Sometimes Help
If none of the main fixes work immediately, try these smaller troubleshooting steps:
- Disable VPNs temporarily if they interfere with SMS routing
- Try mobile data instead of home Wi-Fi
- Wait 10–15 minutes between failed SMS attempts
- Use another browser for NCSoft account pages
- Clear Purple launcher cache files
- Reinstall Purple completely if verification keeps looping
NCSoft’s servers occasionally become overloaded after major updates or launch periods, so repeated attempts at different times of day can also help.
The Aion 2 Taiwan phone verification system is frustrating, especially for international players, but it is usually solvable without needing a Taiwanese mobile number.
For most people, the successful combination looks like this:
- Enable OTP first
- Enter the country code correctly
- Use a Hong Kong temporary number if local SMS fails
- Optimize routing with ExitLag if verification times out
Once the device is authorized, the launcher generally becomes much easier to use and future logins are far smoother.
